If your fibreglass pool is looking less than its best, it’s an easy fix! There’s no need to rip it out or undergo complicated repairs as it can easily be resurfaced. Here’s what you need to know.
Why Would Your Pool Need Resurfacing?
If your fibreglass pool has cracks, leaks, rust, osmosis, mould or other problems, these need to be fixed, not only to ensure the structural integrity of the pool but to keep it safe and hygienic for pool users. The interior coating on fibreglass swimming pools can also fade or degrade, and resurfacing the pool just brings it back to looking brand spanking new.
Resurfacing Options
One of the best options for resurfacing your fibreglass swimming pool is to apply a new interior coating of fibreglass. Fibreglass coatings are incredibly strong and they are flexible as well, so they can easily withstand any movement in a swimming pool without cracking or chipping. Fibreglass will also bond very well to your existing fibreglass surface. Fibreglass coatings are also a very hygienic option as it is completely nonporous and will not stain, discolour or support algae. A new fibreglass coating inside your pool will last for up to 20-30 years, making it a very cost effective option. You also won’t have to use as many chemicals to maintain your pool’s pH, as fibreglass coated pools are easier to clean, don’t absorb any pool chemicals, and don’t support algae. You also have a beautiful, smooth new finish that is available in a range of colours. Resurfacing your fibreglass pool with fibreglass essentially means that you are building a new pool inside your old one.
Two pack epoxy paint coatings are another excellent option for resurfacing your fibreglass pool. The two pack coating is easily applied to a clean, dry fibreglass surface and it dries very, very hard and very smoothly, creating a gorgeous, easy to maintain finish inside your pool. The coating, once dried, is resistant to both salt water and pool chemicals, does not support the growth of algae, and is very safe in terms of people swimming inside the pool. Two pack coatings are even safe enough to be used inside fish ponds! Of course, two pack coatings are available in a range of colours so you can choose the preferred colour of your new fibreglass pool finish.
